Franklin D. Mitchell, Sr.
Reverend Franklin Mitchell Sr. was born in Monroe, Louisiana to the late J.C. and Rosie K. Mitchell. The last child of twelve, he received his education in the Monroe City School System. He accepted Christ as his savior in July of 1978 at The Greater Flower Mount Baptist Church located at 1600 Wood Street in Monroe Louisiana, under the leadership of the late Pastor B.R. Butcher Sr. He later joined the Greater Free Gift Baptist Church of Monroe Louisiana under the leadership of Pastor Rodney McFarland Sr. While serving at Greater Free Gift, Pastor McFarland ordained him as a deacon in which he later became Chairman of The Deacon Ministry. As a young man, he worked with Pastor McFarland in serving at the Greater Free Gift and serving others. Through God’s direction, Pastor McFarland approached him once again to serve as Chairman of Layman of The Old-Line District Association. He worked with his pastor, other pastors, and deacons across the city of Monroe and surrounding areas. Later, God placed a calling on his life to preach the Gospel. However, being in the form of man and thinking that he could run from his calling, he moved his family to Dallas, Texas. At that time, he joined The Greater Ideal Baptist Church of Dallas, Texas under the leadership of the late Dr. L.D. Thomas. With the pressing of his calling upon him heavily, he accepted his calling in 1998 through the teaching and guidance of Pastor Thomas.
Reverend Mitchell preached his first sermon on February 14, 1999. While working with Pastor Thomas in
many capacities around Greater Ideal, the Lord called Pastor Thomas home. In 2004, Reverend Mitchell
served on the building committee along with Deacon Louis Kennybrew and Deacon Willie Reed in which
they oversaw the building of their new church building. After serving one year as their pulpit conductor,
Greater Ideal Baptist Church elected a new pastor.
As God continued to purpose the path of Reverend Mitchell, he joined the Ervay Cedar Baptist Church
under the leadership of Dr. T.L. Brown where he served in both the Sunday School and The Brotherhood
Ministries. While at Ervay Cedar, Dr. Brown recommended that Reverend Mitchell further his education
in Biblical Studies and Theology. After much prayer and consideration, Rev. Mitchell enrolled in Faith
Bible Institute. Under the direction of the Holy Spirit, Reverend Mitchell was led to the True Vine of
Holiness Missionary Baptist Church. In March of 2013, he united with True Vine under the leadership of
Dr. Wendell Blair Sr.
Reverend Mitchell is married to the former Sister Terri Jones. He has four biological children: Darius,
Delano, Mulayshia, and Franklin Jr. He also raised five children as his own: Nyeshia, Reyna, Ryan,
Quintarius, and Quintaria.
